Shirakura Mineral Stones
Shirakura Mineral Stone
Mineral stone (Montmorillonite) for vitality and enhanced colours
Shirakura Mineral Stone is an expandable mineral stone made of montmorillonite, which enriches the water with important minerals and serves as natural ion exchanger for cleaner water. Because of its high ion exchange ability, it can negate poisonous substances such as ammonium/ ammoniac and heavy metals over a long period and store them safely so that they are of no danger for your shrimp.
Initially it may appear as if the Mineral Sone has desolved, but this is not the case. It will swell and this is necessary for storing poisonous substances in its intermediate layers and adsorbing them into the clay silicate.
Healthy, active and vibrant shrimp require specalized minerals and this also helps them avoid molting problems. It is of extreme importance to adequately enhance the water and to trap poisionus substances quickly and naturally. When using naturally very soft, slightly acidic water or substrates that softens the water, it is best to compliment the chemistry with mineral stone without. Japanese shrimp breeders are convinced of the positive characteristics of the mineral stones and use them in their breeding facilities, as doesTakayuki Shirakura.
Usage
Rinse the stone for a short period of time about 4 times every few minutes to let it soak. This prevents cracking and breaking.
Place about 200g (7 oz) of Mineral Stone per 100 L (26 gal) of water into the aquarium. Replace every 6 months. Should the mineral stone become covered with algae, it should be removed from the aquarium and the algae gently brushed off, the stone can then be placed back into the aquarium.
